Guild President inaugurates Fellows Screening Committee

The President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) Mr. Mustapha Isah, today at the Editors’ House, Ikeja, inaugurated a five-member committee to screen members nominated for the Fellowship of the Guild for this year.

The committee headed by a former President of the Guild, Alhaji Baba Dantiye, has as Secretary, Barrister John Ndukauba, a former NGE General Secretary. Others are Mrs Dupe Ajayi-Gbadebo, Mr. Gbemiga Ogunleye and Mr. Ted Iwere.

Isah expressed confidence that the committee would do a thorough job.

He said Article 12 of the Guild constitution makes it clear that all the five members of the screening committee must be fellows hence the choice of the five members among who are three lawyers.

He enjoined them to apply the provisions of the Guild constitution, which stipulates that a member of the Guild who has distinguished himself/herself through outstanding contributions to the development of the journalism profession in Nigeria may be conferred with a Fellowship.

He assured the committee that the Standing Committee will not add any name to the list of the Fellows to be submitted by the committee at the end of their screening exercise.

Members of the Guild Executive who were at the inauguration include the Vice President (West) Mr Bolaji Adebiyi, the General, Mr. Iyobosa Uwugairen and Mr. Steve Nwosu, Treasurer.
