The Acting President of Nigerian Guild of Editors, Funke Egbemode, has advised Nigerians to enliven their entrepreneurial spirits in the interest of the nation’s economic survival.
Egbemode made the call in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday while delivering an address of welcome at the 12th All Nigerian Editors Conference.
She said that Nigeria could be brought back to the path of economic prosperity if its citizens would embrace positive attitudes that would discourage over-reliance on oil.
According to her, Nigeria has all it takes to become a leader in food production and agriculture in general, but needs to find the passion to drive the process.
Egbemode said: “We just all need to reach inside to find another passion, another thing that will move us back into the big league.
“We have the land, we have the manpower, we have the climate, we are known for our resilience and fighting spirit.”
The NGE boss said that Nigeria could make agriculture work and become a world reference if it would do the needful.
Egbemode said that the choice of the theme for the 2016 editors’ conference was well decided and geared toward setting the agenda for a prosperous Nigeria.
“Instead of sobbing and moaning about our oil misfortunes, we can and should focus our energy on the gold mine that agriculture offers,” she said.
More than 300 editors are attending the conference with the theme: “Economic Diversification, Agriculture as option for a prosperous Nigeria.”
